Article Featuring X Communication Team’s Efforts Published in “障がい者としごとマガジン”

On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, an interview article titled “AI × Neuroscience: Making Computer Operation Possible with BMI – PwC Foundation Supports Araya’s Development Project (in Japanese only)” was published in 障がい者としごとマガジン (in Japanese only). The article features insights from Dr. Shuntaro Sasai (CRO and Director of R&D Department) and Ryu Miyata (Science Communicator) from the X Communication Team of Araya’s R&D Department.

The X Communication Team has been selected for the FY2024 Grant Project: Human Augmentation by the PwC Foundation. As part of this grant project, the team is developing a Brain-Machine Interface (BMI) that enables users to perform click operations on a monitor simply by looking and concentrating on their thoughts. This innovative solution aims to provide a new communication interface alternative to traditional mouse and keyboard operations, targeting not only individuals with severe physical disabilities but also offering this new option to everyone in society.

Furthermore, Katsuki Ono, an individual with severe physical disabilities who works as a freelancer and also runs Equal Frontiers, a job placement service he established to support people with disabilities, has joined the team as Araya’s BMI Development Engineer and BMI Pilot. His participation helps to ensure the development of a BMI that is more user-friendly for everyone.

The team is committed to continuing its research and development while valuing the voices and experiences of those directly impacted.

Currently, the X Communication Team is seeking individuals to participate as BMI pilots and assist with experiments for this project. We welcome applications from anyone interested in contributing to our research. (We also welcome native English speakers.)

For more details, please refer to the recruitment guidelines linked here (in Japanese only).
